Make up essentials 101

Hey guys! how is everyone doing? i hope y’all missed me because I have something nice for everyone! So bookie of http://www.thelifeofbey.wordpress.com asked that I do a post on make up essentials and I jumped on it! LOL! Almost every girl, *regular girls and not make up artists* has a bag/purse/nylon *LOL* of make up. I mean, you have at least one item of make up that you use. Style gurus preach about how everyone should have a perfect trench coat or a perfect little black dress handy, well the same principle applies to make up. you should have some certain items in your make up bag. Having an extensive cosmetic collection is fantastic, but what every girl/lady really needs are the perfect beauty basics; products so versatile and essential. Have you ever wondered ‘what make up do i really need?’ well, here is your answer! consider these your ‘make up little black dress’

1. Facial Cleanser: I’m sure lots of people don’t think they are essential but trust me they are! Facial cleansers are an integral part of any skin care routine for cleansing away excess oil and dirt from your face.

Babyface plain facial cleanser is super affordable and it does the job. @N300

2. Facial Toner: Toner refers to a lotion or wash designed to cleanse the skin and shrink the appearance of pores on your face. Using a toner makes a big difference in how your make up appears. A common misconception is that toners are only for fair skinned people and that it bleaches your skin. LOL. toners do not bleach your skin and also are definitely not for only fair skinned people. They are for everyone! Toners are very affordable too.

Budget:swiss jardin facial toner is alcohol free and super affordable @N800.

Splurge: Neutrogena facial toner

3. Moisturiser: A good moisturizer is a must for your make up bag even if you have oily skin. Moisturizing is essential to make your skin soft, smooth and glowing. moisturising goes a long way in  how your skin will appear on the long run and how your make up looks. however, over moisturizing will cause clogging of your pores.

These moisturizers go for N5000,N6000 and N9000 respectively. These are a little high end but you can get some other moisturisers for less.

4. Face Primer: This is an essential product if you want your make up to look flawless and to last very long.

IMG_3413

There are loads of primers however, I find ELF mineral infused primer to be awesome at a very affordable price. It is a budget friendly primer that works superb! It is quite similar to the smashbox photofinish primer. it goes for about N3000

5. Eyebrow pencil and Bobbi brown angle brush

Eyebrow pencils are a basic necessity for make up. every lady needs to have one and finding the right shade is also very important so you don’t go about looking like a masquerade with black eyebrows. LOL! The angle brush is essential for brow perfection! It helps to apply your concealer for highlighting your brows! it has angled bristles for perfect angles.

IMG_3420

I find the AIRWOMAN pencil to be the ultimate budget eyebrow pencil! it is way better than davis in the sense that it is not oily and it has this matte look. it goes for N50! The bobbi brow angle brush is super soft and the bristles don’t pull off at all. you can get them in singles are in a whole set. The single ones go for about N1000 on the taadah store.

6.Eyeshadow primer: An eyeshadow primer is the No. 1 product to prevent eyeshadow from melting and smudging. It helps your eyeshadow to last longer and look 5 times brighter! This is really essential!

IMG_3432

ELF eyeshadow primer is an affordable primer while my all time favourite budget eyeshadow primer is the La girl eyeshadow primer which goes for just N1300 at the taadah store. There are loads of other primers, i really love ‘too faced shadow insurance’!

7. Eyeshadow: Almost everyone has eye shadow so no need for long stories! eye shadows are a necessity. All you need are basic shades. The taadah store has an array of eye shadow palettes from 10 color,to 18 and to 20 color palettes at affordable prices.

8.Eyeliners: Essential!!! eyeliners are necessary. whether gel liners or liquid eyeliners or pen eyliner, they are necessary to give you that omph!

IMG_3433

I am all for pen liners! i really love milani and La girl pen liners!

9. Mascara: We all kinda know what a mascara does but then ther are mascaras and there are MASCARAS! the good mascaras can cost a fortune, however, we love the Nicka K super volume mascara on the taadah store which sells for N1000 only!

IMG_3447

10. Foundation: whether you are a full coverage girl or a medium coverage girl, a good foundation is a MUST to hide imperfections and give you that flawless look!

IMG_3436

Maybelline fit me foundation is an affordable and amazing foundation with different shades! it goes for about N3000, it is medium coverage and its buildable, if you are into full coverage. I use my mary kay full coverage foundation whenever i feel like i need full coverage but i find full coverage to be too much for the Nigerian weather though.

11. Concealer: every girl has imperfections and you need that amazing concealer to help with that. thankfully,God brought us the La girl Pro concealer. I’m sure you must have heard about it because everyone has been gushing about it and trust me it is worth the hype! it goes for N1200 on the taadah store.

IMG_3417

12. Powder: whether pressed or loose powder, powder is a necessity, it helps your foundation stay in place and depending on the powder can give you a matte finish or dewy finish. MAC studio fix powder is one of my favourites, its a little high end, however maybelline fit me powder is a good alternative at a cheaper price. The taadah store has a Jordana flawless powder for N1200

IMG_3441

13. NUDE LIPSTICK: Just like your little black dress, a nude lipstick is a must have for you make up purse! A nude lipstick can work with a whole lot of looks and is suitable for everyday wear! every girl should have one! my favourites so far are MAC velvet teddy, MUA fawn fancy and Jordana matte Nude lipstick which is available on our taadah store for N700 and MUA fawn Fancy for N1200 on the taadah store.

IMG_3430

14. CLASSIC RED LIPSTICK: everyone needs a classic red lipstick, red goes with any skin tone, if you get the right red with an undertone to suit your skin that is. A red lip look can take your simple look to a sultry sexy look. My all time favorite and a lot of people’s favorite is MAC ruby woo, The jordana matte Rouge lipstick is a good dupe for MAC ruby woo and is available on the taadah store for N700 or the la girl lipstick in sexy for N800.

IMG_3428

15. BLUSH PALETTE: you may not necessarily need a whole palette, you do need a natural color blush to give your make up that pop of color!

IMG_3440

SO! those are my make up essentials and I hope y’all find this post helpful! N.B some prices may not be exact. However, if you need any of the products, you can holla at us on our taadah store!

That being said, I would like to do a post on cheap finds in Nigeria, however, i want to know what my readers think. so please vote below. Thanks!

  1. Aww I’m just seeing this post (blame illness).
I have that mascara! (third mascara, L-R), it’s so nice! It has finished now though but I love the wand because I have tiny curled up lashes and the wand is thin enough to coat my lashes.
I don’t have eyeshadow primer, I just use my foundation as a primer lol, concealer too works sometimes.
Oh and yes to cheap/affordable finds, I’m always up for that.
